Our Location

Location & Climate

The Grand Canyon North Rim is located in a remote area of Northern Arizona within a two-hour drive of the Utah border. The closest towns are Jacob Lake, Arizona 47 miles and Fredonia, Arizona/Kanab, Utah at approximately 80 miles away. Our nearest cities are St. George, Utah at 150 miles, Flagstaff, Arizona at 172 miles, and Las Vegas, Nevada at 268 miles.

The North Rim is 8,500 feet above sea level and weather can be unpredictable in Spring and Fall so employees should be prepared for a variety of climates. You should expect mild mountain temperatures from Mid-May towards Mid-September when temperatures range from 50 to 70 degrees. There is usually a dusting of snow at the very start and end of our season. Heavy afternoon rains occur during Monsoon Season from June 15 to September 30. The North Rim is closed in winter.

Wildlife

The Grand Canyon North Rim has a variety of wildlife including Deer, Elk, Coyote, Turkeys, Bison, and indigenous Kaibab Squirrel with their black coat and grey bushy tail.

4th of July Celebration

Independence Day is a special date for the Grand Canyon North Rim. Every year we celebrate with a parade of vehicles decorated in patriotic flair, a community cookout and other activities such as Relay Races, Cake Walks, Volleyball, Bocce Ball, Horse Shoes, Badminton, Frisbee, Kickball, Face Auto painting, and Watermelon & Pie Eating Contests.

Survivor Party

To celebrate another successful North Rim Season, and as a way of demonstrating appreciation to our staff, the “Survivor Party” features a special meal with a beautiful view of the Grand Canyon, and live music. As you can tell, we like to send our departing seasonal staff onto their next adventure in style.

Our Operation

The Grand Canyon North Rim consists of three locations, all within 1.5 miles of each other: Grand Canyon Lodge, Campground, and Employee Area. It is easy to walk or bike between locations, but we also offer a free shuttle to employees.

Our Operation includes cabins and hotel units, a full-service restaurant, saloon, gift shop, and deli at Grand Canyon Lodge. The general store, public laundry and shower facilities, and a full-service gas station are located at the Campground. Employee housing and the employee dining room are located in the Employee Area.

Hours & Pay

Employees are paid bi-weekly on Fridays. Employees typically work a 5-day work week averaging 35-45 hours a week. Because we are a seasonal operation in a National Park, an employee may work up to 48 hours per week without earning overtime pay.

Ideal Candidate

Our Ideal Candidate has a positive attitude, strong work ethic, flexibility, and is seeking the experience of living and working in a beautiful remote setting. Grand Canyon Lodge at North Rim is located at an elevation of 8000 feet, and so your ability and willingness to work at a high elevation and a remote location are important factors in our hiring process. As a condition of employment every Grand Canyon North Rim Employee must pass pre-employment background drug screenings.

Employee Housing

Most employees will live in company provided dormitories, cabins, apartments or trailers during their employment and should expect to have roommate(s). Most rooms come with their own bathroom, beds, and dressers. Unless noted otherwise, company provided housing is for employees only.

RV Sites

We have a limited number of RV sites available. The units must be fully self-contained with working shower and toilet facilities. Water, Electric, and Sewage Hook-Ups are available.

Employee Housing

Tell me about Grand Canyon North Rim, LLC?
The Grand Canyon North Rim is a private corporation owned by Forever Resorts. Our company operates visitor services under a concession agreement with the National Park Service. Our operation includes 218 guest cabins and hotel units, dining room, gift shop, deli, general store, public laundry and shower facility, and gas station.
Where is the Grand Canyon North Rim Located?

Yes, there is. Our Employee Gym is located behind our Employee Dining Room Building and features free weights, bench, rowing machine, etc.

Tell me a little bit about the Grand Canyon Lodge at the North Rim?
Our lodge has been designated as a historic landmark and is located right on the edge of the Grand Canyon providing spectacular canyon views, desert and mountain vistas and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The original Grand Canyon Lodge was built in 1927. Unfortunately, this facility was burned down in 1932. The lodge was rebuilt in 1936-37 and still stands today. Located at over 8000 feet in altitude and surrounded by a dense forest of Pine and Aspen, nature, solitude and beauty prevail.
How old is the Grand Canyon and how was it formed?
It is estimated to be 17 Million and was formed by erosion and uplift.
How big is the Grand Canyon?
The length is 277 miles, width is up to 18 miles, and depth is 6,000 feet.
How is the weather at the Grand Canyon North Rim?
The North Rim is 8,500 feet above sea level (1,000 feet higher than the South Rim) and can receive snow throughout most of the year. Weather is particularly unpredictable in spring and fall so visitors should be prepared for a variety of climates. The North Rim is closed in winter.
Do you provide Room & Board for your employees?
Yes, we offer dormitory style housing along with meals for a daily charge.
Are Laundry Facilities Available?
Laundry facilities are available free of charge. You will need to just provide the detergent.
Is a deposit required?
There is a $100.00 per person refundable deposit for employee housing and a $50.00 per RV Site deposit.
Can I bring an RV?
RV sites are available. The units must be fully self-contained with a working shower and toilet facilities. Water, Electric, and Sewage Hook-Ups available
Is couples housing available?
We do offer limited couples housing
If staying in Employee Housing, will I have a roommate?
Most of our employees will have at least one roommate and two at the most.
What if I want to play basketball or volleyball with some friends?
We have a modified basketball court and sandpit to play volleyball.
Can I bring a Pet?
Unfortunately, Pets are not allowed in housing or dorm areas at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Pets are classified as any living domesticated animal. Employees residing in our RV Park are allowed a maximum of two pets in their residence. Owners are required to follow National Park rules and regulations related to pets on property.
If hired, what items should I bring with me?
It is recommended you bring clothing for all-seasons along with personal hygiene products. We also advise you to bring bedding and other linens including a pillow with you. Most of our beds are twins. There are a very limited number of queen beds.
How is Cell phone Service at the Grand Canyon North Rim?
Cell phone service is extremely limited due to the closest cell tower being located across the Grand Canyon at the South Rim. Many of our guests and employees visit the Rim of the Canyon to make calls. WiFi Calling helps alleviate this issue to an extent.
Is Wi-Fi available at the Grand Canyon North Rim?
Wi-Fi is available in our employee areas including the Employee Dining Room and Dormitories. Service is limited and our system does not have the capacity to stream content from services such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime.
What if I want to relax and watch some television?
Satellite Television is available in the Employee Dining Room Lounge and most of the common areas of employee dormitories. Unfortunately, Satellite Television is not available in our employee dormitory rooms.
I have a family member or friend who wants to visit me at The Grand Canyon North Rim?
We offer a Friends & Family Cabin for $25.00 per night. Subject to Availability and other conditions do apply.
Can my visiting guest eat in the Employee Dining Room?
Employee Dining Room (EDR) Meal Tickets can be purchased with cash for a nominal fee.
How do I receive mail at the Grand Canyon North Rim?
The United States Postal Service has an office onsite at the Grand Canyon Lodge. You can send and receive mail and do limited postal business at the Post Office. The USPS mailing address is: Your Name, General Delivery, North Rim, AZ 86052.
Can I receive packages at the Grand Canyon North Rim?
Fedex & UPS make deliveries to our location during the season. Your shipping address is: Your Name, C/O Grand Canyon North Rim, End of Hwy 67, North Rim, AZ 86052. These packages will be delivered for pick-up to the HR Department. USPS Package will be delivered to our location post office.
